Pinot Noir is the exception rather than the rule in Portugal, but Aneto winemaker Francisco Montenegro likes to break the rules. Portugal’s approx. 300 unique varieties are not enough for him and he still wants to test what the Douro Valley can offer to a fussy Pinot Noir. And it seems that the prince of Burgundy, or rather the princess Pinot Noir (?) feels quite comfortable on the steep slopes of Baixo Corgo at an altitude of about 550 m, and the result is a well-balanced, enjoyable and easy to match wine.
